Faroese as a Second Language

Are you new to the Faroese language? Do you already understand some Faroese and want to improve your skills? Or have you previously been in Faroese language courses and wish to continue your studies? No matter what your level is or how long you’ve been in the Faroe Islands, you are welcome to join the Faroese as a Second Language (FSA) courses at Miðnám í Suðuroy.

What is FSA?

FSA is language classes for adult newcomers whose first language is not Faroese. The main focus is to learn the Faroese language and to get insight into Faroese culture and society. The program is organised according to the curriculum for Faroese as a second language (Føroyskt sum annaðmál, namsaetlanir.fo – translation here) and concludes with an examination. FSA is divided into several levels which all conclude with a proficiency test.

Course Schedule:
Classes will be offered during morning, afternoon and evenings:

• Morning courses: 3-5 days per week
• Afternoon courses: 2-3 days per week  
• Evening courses: 2 evenings per week + online activities

Morning courses will be held from: 08:10 -11:25

Afternoon courses will be held from: 11:55 – 15:05

Evening courses will be held: Usually from 17:30 or 18:00

Price: The courses are free of charge, but participants must shoulder the cost of course materials.

Application deadline: 1 May and 15 November.

Visitations: Held in May and November / December (If you have already passed a level in FSA, you do not need to attend visitation.)

Start date: August and January

Føroyskt sum annaðmál

Ert tú nýbyrjari í føroyskum máli? Ella dugir tú eitt sindur av føroyskum, men vilt hava enn betri málførleikar? Ella hevur tú gingið til skeið í føroyskum og vilt halda fram?

Føroyskt sum annaðmál fyri vaksin er undirvísing í føroyskum máli, samfelagi og mentan fyri vaksnar tilflytarar, sum hava eitt annað móðurmál enn føroyskt.  Útbúgvingin er skipað sambært námsætlan fyri føroyskt sum annaðmál (Føroyskt sum annaðmál (namsaetlanir.fo)) og endar við próvtøku. Útbúgvingin er í fleiri stigum, og eftir hvørt stigið er ein stigroynd.

Skeiðini:

Tíð: Skeiðini vera um dagin og um kvøldið. Tú kanst velja millum:

• Dagskeið: 3-5 dagar um vikuna umframt online
• Kvøldskeið: 2-3 dagar um vikuna umframt online

Dagskeiðið verður hildið klokkan: Kl.  8.10 – 11.25 ella 11.55 – 15.05

Kvøldskeiðið verður hildið klokkan: Kl. 17.30 – 20.45

** Broytingar í endaligu tímatalvuni kunnu koma fyri **

Stig: Undirvísingin er á fleiri stigum – frá nýbyrjarum til framkomin, og næmingar verða settir á hóskandi stig eftir upptøkusamrøðu.

Stað: Skeiðini verða á Miðnámi í Suðuroy.

Kostnaður: Undirvísingin er ókeypis, men lærutilfari gjalda næmingarnir sjálvir.

Freist: Umsóknarfreistin er vanliga 1. mai og 15. november.

Upptøka verður eftir samrøðu. Vit hava vanliga visitatiónir í mai/juni og november/desember.

Skúlabyrjan: Skeiðini byrja í august og januar.
